Rainy Days and Mondays

It's raining. A lot.

It was so dark on the ride into school that I almost thought I had the time wrong. The streets are running with water; some are already closed to traffic. Flood warnings are in effect. I'm looking for those blueprints for the ark.

Of course, being from the Northwest, rain in and of itself isn't an issue. Ho hum. But "they" are predicting a wind storm later today. Tons of rain followed by wind? Hi, that was the recipe for the Big Blow of '06. I'm having flashbacks. My stomach hurts.

Yeah, but I've got some special plans that include a commercial grade kitchen...they didn't have HVAC instructions back in the beginning of the world.

It's cold and blustery here. Snow flurries, I guess. All I know is that I thought the snot in my nose was going to freeze going from the grocery store to my Jeep. Geez Louise!

Love,
Julie

JP: So say we all.

Julie: I'll take cold and blustery over flooding every time. (Assuming the cold and blustery is not describing the conditions from inside my house because the power went out).

Be careful, Mouse. Ice is NOT good.

The wind she is a'blowin round my neck of the woods. And speaking of woods, should I be at all nervous about the ginormous tree outside of my window? (shivers) Lovely snowflake. Did someone mention pie?

Loved the snowflake making site!

Fingers crossed for no bad weather or at the very least, less severe weather than expected.

Wow, Greeny. I'm impressed. The fact that you took time to comment about the snowflake site suggests you had the will to pull away from it. Well done!

My fingers and toes are in a current state of crossedness as well.

Is my stateroom ready yet? Send the steward up with a hot toddy.

Got any rhubarb pie to go with that?

Thankssomuch.

Our cat sitter/check daily person called as did the neighbor that is plowing the drive while we are gone......are you sitting down? 23 inches in the Selle Valley in 24 hours. Power is still on and the highway is clear. We had a berm the size of Kansas which is a new record for our ass of a county plow driver.

This wheather has everyone in an uproar..
I'd like to book a suite on the Lido deck.
Will Penn and Teller be performing in the lounge?..I love those guys.

Hatty Hat, just stay away from the windows. I think you might be safer on my ark. We allow cats.

Twisi, yep. The good news, The Neighbor doesn't have any big ass trees left.

Anne, your hot toddy will be right up. You'll be pleased to know that there is a pie buffet every evening in the dining room. Rhubarb is, of course, a standard. But don't forget to try the pumpkin with pecan-gingersnap crust. To die for.

Rosie, that is entirely too much snow. You and Steve have been given the stateroom across the hall from Anne's.

Sling, as a matter of fact, Penn and Teller are performing for the next 2 weeks. Would you like me to reserve your regular table?

What's a cubit?

December 04, 2007 12:09 AM
Blogger Lorraine opined...

Willym, let's see...from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger? Or is that the one that goes from the middle of the forehead to the navel...dang it...where's my slide rule? Hang on, I'd better go ask the Lord...

December 04, 2007 7:06 AM

My understanding of a cubit is that it is indeed the length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. Unfortunately, I don't recall if it was ever specified whether it was the crook of the elbow (the inner measure, if you will) or the point of the elbow (the outer measure). I imagine one would have to know, because it could add up to a considerable variance over time.

And of course, it never specifies whose elbow-to-middle-fingertip, which could also squark things up a bit.

Lurve the commercial kitchen idea, though. Is there anything still available on the Lido deck?

Syd, ark building has gotten way easier since the invention of the slide rule.

And there is still a cabin on Lido, but you'll have to share.

Oh. With whom am I sharing? And are you sure he/she/they are willing to share with me? I'm still kind of a stranger hereabouts...

It's ok. You're sharing with JP. He makes a very nice cabin mate. And he doesn't snore.

Much.
