One for Sling
Sling likes strings. The soulfully evocative "ping" of acoustic guitar strings, the stirring melodies of string orchestras, large balls of string which he keeps on his coffee table, string theory. He likes spaghetti. It makes him happy that his name rhymes with "string". Yep, he's all about the string.
So I thought I'd send out a dedication to O-Town today. This one's for you, buddy.
The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby"

That song always makes me tear up. Same deal with "Cats in the Cradle". Good songs but when they come on the classics radio station, I gotta change the channel. I am such a weenie.
Tho' it's hopelessly geeky of me, I've recently started listening to some of the old Neil Diamond cassettes I've inherited from my parents, who've gone all the way digital these days. And I have to say that the use of the string quartet (especially the cello) in Neil's "Play Me" is quite extraordinary.
Hi, I'm totally uncool.
You're not a weenie, KA, just deeply sensitive and artistic.
Oh, Red, "Play Me" is one of those songs on which I wore out the grooves. (Uncool? Not so much. Unless you don't know what "wearing out the grooves" means).
I didn't know they were making videos back then.
Hey, we should open up a club called "Here's the 60's."
HOORAY!!!! I LOVE this song!
JP: Hey, you should stop smoking crack!
Mon: You have such fine and sophisticated tastes for such a young thing.
Sling's name also ryhmes with Wings. But let us not go there.
I totally spelled that wrong. oH well. Sling also rHymes with ding. As in dingbat. wHich is me. I'll leave now.
No, my angel Hat, we will NOT go there and furthermore, Wings has nothing to do with strings and therefore we will ignore them altogether.
(Anyone now tempted to leave a list of all the Wings songs that employ strings is kindly asked to refrain and take his or her band on the run).
Wow. Posting a comment as I post an answer to your first comment. I cannot keep up. I shall not attempt it. For lo, I must get to Trader Joe's before the parking situation becomes more ridiculous than usual.
You know, the Beatles once came to my house for Spaghetti and string cheese!..Only not really.
BUT!..I did have a dog I named "Rigby",after that song. That was back in the 60's before music videos, and Hamburger Helper.
Thank you, thank you! for sending that out to O-Town for me. :)
Who loves ya, babe?
God, I love that song.
It says so damn much.
Oh Lorraine I could just kiss ya! Being a Beatles fanatic, I love them all. BUT, this is my most favoritest of favorites.
Love,
Julie
Iwanski, yep. One of the greats. I remember being positively haunted by the line "wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door". Poetry, man. (snaps fingers like a beatnik)
Muuuah, Julie. Also happy to please another Beatles fan.
