We need to start Calling him Mr. Holland rather then George Clooney.

You're probably right, Spouse. Opus for short.

Actually, Buck, The Neighb and I have figured out the perfect guy for you. All you have to do is move to Seattle.

POC computers. Hate them. I probably look like an upside down eggplant in 'em, Rosie, but I love the lines of them.

Your brother seems like one of
those teachers that make a real
difference in the life of those
kids. I give him much credit!

Anon, he really is. In fact, he's one of the Top Ten Greatest Guys Ever in the World. And I'm not just saying that.

Ain't he, though, Sling? Strings, hmmm...

Its so nice to see a vibrant music programme in a school - its something that seems to have fallen by the wayside in some Canadian school systems. Looks like GC is doing a great job - particularly the string ensemble - that is such a great idea.

And for some reason I felt really good after looking at that clip - maybe the fact of watching young people making music.

Willym, likewise, most schools in the US began to abandon the large portion of their "arts" programs because it was an added cost for something that was deemed less important. (Yes, yes, despite research to the contrary, etc. etc).

Happily, the Catholic schools have largely avoided that trap...I suppose 2000 years of music tradition doesn't hurt...but both the grade schools The Child has attended offered music and art in the curriculum; both high schools she's applying to have vibrant arts programs.

And yep, seeing young people making music (and generally behaving) is definitely a tonic.

Also, I would like to note, for the record, that up above where I am answering Rosie I suggest that I "probably look like an upside down eggplant in 'em". The 'em in question is tulip skirts but it sounds like I'm referring to computers. I'd just look plain silly if I wore a computer.

Oh, this was amazing. And of course your brother is fab justfor being a music teacher!!!
I am blown away with the opportunity those kids have just in the music department. I would guess there is ample opportunities in the rest of the school as well.
I would move my kids if i could get them into a school like St. Marks!

Greeny, just watching that clip made me so grateful that we've been able to have The Child in a good school and makes me excited about the possibiities that will open up for her in high school.

(crossing fingers that she gets into high school)
