Mockaus

The Child's social studies teacher is seizing the day and guiding the kids through a exercise in caucusing. Each kid is supposed to pick a candidate, one for each party, and today and tomorrow they are going to play. They are, of course, supposed to learn a thing or two about their selected candidates, so they can argue effectively.

The Child picked Obama and Huckabee.

"Why Obama?"

"Because I hear you and dad talking about him all the time".

"And Huckabee?"

"Because he's lonely".

Right.

So I send her off to their websites to learn a little about the candidates. She likes Obama because he's against the war and she likes the way he talks. (Don't we all?)

"And what did you learn about Mr. Huckabee?"

"I didn't look him up".

"Why not? Isn't that part of the exercise? To know about the candidates and be able to argue for your support of them?"

"Oh, on Huckabee I'm just going to let someone change my mind".

Very wise. But just to put on a show, she should simply repeat "But what about the sanctity of marriage?" a few times before giving it up and moving to the McCain corner.

wise beyond her years!

hopefully she'll put all those years of practice from asking mommy, "why?", into action whenever the opposition tries to sway her opinion. just to annoy them before giving in.

oh Dylan. What a crack up! I laughed out loud while reading:

"And Huckabee?"

"Because he's lonely".

what a genius line that is.

That was about as cool and precious as it gets - one of those stories that makes people write it on notebook paper and send it to Readers' Digest. If I had a kid that said stuff like she does, I'd been mailing Readers' Digest - well, as often as she said cool stuff.

I love when you tell stories of what the Child says.

Red, I will begin coaching her immediately.

Danny boy! Haven't seen you in a while. Annoying the opposition is what she does best.

Mols, right? Such minds in your generation...auntie is hopeful.

Booda: (makes note to look into filler submission policies for Reader's Digest).

And the Force is strong with her, too, Sling.

I love smart kids...that I don't have to feed. Is it a wonderful feeling the child is not only caring for a lonely guy, but willing to walk when the time comes.
