Pop Quiz
Students, please take out a number 2 pencil.
Fact: The United States is engaged in a self-declared "war on terror".
Fact: Most governments in the Middle East officially hate our guts.
Please explain a) why we are selling some key ports to the UAE and b) why in the face of mounting opposition the President says he'll veto any bill designed to stop the deal.
Extra credit for explaining how any of this makes us more secure.

Great. Another test where I don't know the answers to any questions. This is SO not going to help my grade point average.
I really wish you'd go back to that True/False format you were using last semester. At least then I had a chance.
I think the administration made a deal with the UAE for continued stability in the region so that they will not be embarassed when the whole region explodes in flaming bits of martyrs and innocents. I think that the UAE has us over a barrel, pun intended, and is now leveraging for control of our economy and trade. I think the administration is looking at this like a simple business deal and is unwilling to face the fact that it is an idea of colossal stupidity.
The only evidence to support this is the administrations threat to use a veto pen that has not been touched in 6 years.
jpdc, We discussed this during mid-terms. If you devoted a little less time to drinking beer and a little more to studying the material I'm sure you could bring up your grades. You have as much time in the day as any of the other students to prepare.

I thought it was obvious that this was a part of Bush's master plan to secretly sneak oil into the US in the cargo holds of the ships so we American's can curtail our shameless addiction to fossil fuels. -:P - Grish
