Carnevale Report
The guests have gone. There are wine stains on the table cloth and The Dog keeps trying to bring the lamb bone into the house. It was a swell party.
Brooke asked that I post the menu so she can keep her long distance bill in line. And the New Jersey Cousin will want to know what we ate as well. So here 'tis:
i
Smoke Salmon & Apricot Chutney on Rye Toasts
Almond Champagne
(The champagne was a happy accident. It said it was from "Almond Cellars" and I stopped reading after that. Turns out it was almond scented but it wasn't nauseatingly sweet or weird and worked beautifully with the chutney. I think apricots and almonds are in the same family).
ii
Roasted Red Pepper Soup with Orange Cream
iii
Celery & Parmesan Salad
iv
Roast Leg of Lamb with Artichokes & Potatoes
Thyme Roasted Carrots
Parsnip & Hazelnut Gratin with Bacon
v
Amuse-Bouche of Toffee Almond Swoops with Whipped Cream
vi
Chocolate Wontons with Chili Sugar
Yum. Yum again. Dear friends. Sweet prayer. Laughter 'til wine came out of our noses. A fine party indeed.

I disagree. I did not care for the almond champaigne. I really prefer the Orange Widow.
A fabulous pre-Lenten feast. The best part was the circle of prayer and support with the delicious fare a close second. I know adding bacon to anything vastly improves it but the parsnips-bacon-hazelnut-cream combo was to die for. I'm also enjoying the throwback to primitive times watching The Dog cast about the yard with the ghastly remains of the lamb leg clutched between his teeth. Dinner, prayer and a show - what could be better?
Wow! Did you cook it all yourself?!
bakpakchick,
Yes, yes we did. We're all about the cooking. It's the clearest way I know to show our friends that we love them. And thanks for stopping by!
Will send this to Mamasita in CA pronto...she's been bugging me about this for days. I thought the chocolate wontons with chile sugar were to-die-for delish. (Shocking, since my veins bleed chile...) Dang, those parsnip thingies were fabu. And E has a way with roast beast...that lamb kicked some serious Lenten mardi gras booty.
