A Little Theory
Has anyone else noticed that a whole bunch of us slowly stopped blogging about the same time a whole bunch of us got on Facebook? Even though the fundamental purpose behind Facebook (annoying ads and Zynga games) is not micro-blogging, I think status updates, at least on some level, satisfy the same somethingsomething as blogging (at least in the short term). Plus, once nearly everyone I knew got on it there was the immediacy of response. We still get to play with the comments. (And lord knows, most of us would admit that some of the best of our writing emerged in response to the cleverness of our readers).
Some bloggers, no doubt, just plain lost interest. But should the above theory be even remotely true, it goes a long way to resolving the mystery of why so many bloggers suddenly fell to earth at the same time.

Funny you mention that - Laurent and I were talking about it last night. He was saying .. so and so hasn't blogged in over 6 months and neither has ... and the list went on. And your right it all seemed to happen when we got on facebook. In some cases maybe there was no more to say or no time to say it in.
I've plugged away with the odd fallow period but things tend to be going on here so I can also post food pics or music thingies.
Glad to see you're back and hopeful we'll be reading more of you?????
I'm going to take this as scientific validation of my theory. (Because I'm entirely too impatient to set up a control group and all that other hooha).
I am hoping to get back into the swing of things, Wills. Might take a while but I realized that I missed the discipline of writing about what I wanted to write about even if most of what I wanted to write about was, as the phrase goes, pure drivel.
I feel much the same way you do. I even opened a facebook account and if you guys frequent there I would very much like to join your group.
As far as blogging goes. I loved it. My problem is that i just got to busy to coherently regurgitate my thoughts 4-5 days a week. It just came out as mush.
That said there have been a number of times that I have wanted to voice my mind during events just not so much so to write on my own dead blog.
Your dedication to blogging is noteworthy and very appreciated. It's the rest of us slackers who need to get in line!
Absolutely, Facebook gets in the way of blogging! I lost a bunch of blog buddies in the Facebook wake...but I'm glad to see you're back blogging again! :)
I've noticed this as well. My major problem is I haven't thought of anything important to say.
Yep yep yep. Time is a factor too. I can spend 30 minutes writing a blog post or 30 minutes on facebook but not both.
You're right, Lorraine. One of the things I noticed, though, is that I am missing actually writing - and more than just status updates.
I'm talking with a couple of friends here in Maine about starting a lifestyle group blog specifically so we can do more in depth stuff.
We'll talk about it more as soon as we get done harvesting our Cityville crops...
I noticed. Just poking around here and on my other peep's blogs. I am over Facebook. Detest it. The only reason I will continue to check it is to keep up with extended family.
I think Facebook took over because finding time to post a blog entry seemed daunting when a 10-word blerb could suffice.
I was shocked that so much time has passed since I last read your blog! Your daughter was starting high shcool that last time I visited!!!!
Hope you are well.
