Picture Album #2

Here's The Child, with the Big Ass Tree's rootball. Note that the roots were shallow and spreading, as opposed to very deep. There had been a flash rain storm earlier in the evening, which flooded many streets. The water was gone as quick as it came but it soaked the ground, a contributing factor in the hundred and hundreds of trees that went down later in the evening.

Friday was still kind of exciting. We were quite sure that our power would be restored at any minute. We live in a big city, after all. We passed the time admiring the tree, talking to neighbors and laying in provisions.

Come the dark, we gathered in front of the fire to play games. Ante up!

The Dog was very cold. That built-in fur coat didn't seem to quite do it for him.

The Child made sure he was nicely tucked up.

I prepared a delicious dinner of vegetable soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. We were still having fun and quite sure that we'd wake up in the morning to a warm house, with power restored.

This is like on Titanic, where they hit the iceberg but they're all still having fun and playing in the ice because they don't realize just how bad things are going to get...

WOW. Nothing like a big ol' rootball to make you feel little, huh? Let's hope this is as exciting as the holidays get, eh wot?

You should know, Charlie, that the photo was taken precisely because someone said, "Charlie would like to see that".
