Yes, Charlie, I Know How You Feel About Cats
I'm getting the feeling that we're due for a Cat Weekend. Unfortunately, it won't be this month. I was going to mark off the time but one glance at the calendar reveals stuff planned every weekend through Memorial Day.
The Spouse and I are going out tonight. We hardly ever do this (and yes, of course, we really should do it more often) so I'm looking forward to it. The Child is looking forward to it because, given that it is very early in the evening and we will be home around 7, we are leaving her alone. (What she doesn't know is that I have people alerted to her status who will be calling to check in with her during that period but she thinks it's a big leap forward on the Independence Meter).
But I'm kinda not looking forward to it because the only time The Spouse and I will be together is in the car going to and from. It's a going-away party for one of his co-workers and I don't really know any of these people. I am not good in these situations. I'm fine if someone starts talking to me but the whole going-up-to-strangers-and-comfortably-making-small-talk thing, not so much. Plus if the majority of the people there are programmers I am so out of luck.
This is what programmer conversation sounds like to me:
Programmer 1: "0001 10 0011 00".
Programmer 2: "Ha! 00001 11 0011 001100!"
Programmer 1: "So I told him, '11001 001 001.'"
Programmer 2: "Backslash!"
Then they both start laughing hysterically and order another beer.

Maybe they were talking about you.
Despite being fluent in English, my brother's wife's parents speak Spanish more often than English. One time they were talking about him and it was derogatory. They didn't realize that he had been learning Spanish from his wife and decided to bust them out on what they were saying. It was pricless.
first of all if you are going to do binary at least use 8 bit notation.
and was that big or little endian?
Eric,
Byte me.
From the Ling living room:
We're waiting for the entry that says:
"oh sh_t! My daughter found my blog"
Seriously, we can't believe the Child has progressed so far. Doesn't she know how rude she's being growing up so fast?
Husband Ling enjoyed the programmer convo summary!
xoxoxo from Husband, WifeMama, and Aunty
Inhabitants of the Ling Living Room:
The "oh sh_t" moment is coming. Actually, she knows about my blog. But certainly she doesn't know what a treasure trove of information it would be were she to read it. When she makes that connection I'll use your kid for material!
Thanks for checking in!
