Posh
I just found a store that I would totally shop at every single day if I lived in Chicago. It's called Posh. It's awesome. And they're on the web so maybe I'll shop there every day anyway. I got some French stuff. And then I found this white dinnerware with the Chicago skyline in black on the rim of the plates and such and thought, "That's a much nicer souvenir than a snow globe". So I bought a bowl.
It's warm. I'm going to go sit on the balcony and drink white wine and read MFK Fisher until I fall asleep.
Tonight we're having dinner at "the fried oyster place".

Is it too early for firefly's? Illinois is full of 'em. Though I doubt it would survive a plane ride. Let alone make it past security.
P.S. If you should see a firefly you must refer to it as a Lightin Bug. They seem to prefer that.
Hey Nayb!!
So glad you're enjoying Chicago - your dinner last night sounded so superfantastic, I was totally drooling all over my keyboard.
Give a shout out to all the blog folk for me - I'm so sorry I couldn't be there with you guys. But somebody had to stay home and see after the cat. So, I went over yesterday afternoon and she was at the door to greet me meowing her little head off as if to say "Where is everybody?"
I fed her the last of the tin of cat food and sat in the chair in the living room and petted and loved her for about 20 minutes. She purred happily and did that cat kneading thing that we we dog people find so, um, unusual.
So all is well at the Thomas house - a bit overcast but warm in Seattle today - sat with Kina at the 10:00 mass, Fr. Ryan was in great form, then went to Trader Joe's with Kate and spent far too much money on wine and junk food.
Miss you terribly - keep the blog posts coming, you know I'm living vicariously through you. Can't wait for the 4th of Jule-eye party which I will attend virtually. Wouldn't be a trailer trash party without the Dee-vor-say from Across the Way.
XOXOXO nayb
oi! you're a real person now! yaaaaaaaaaaay! everything was lovely, 'cept today it took us 5 hours to get home. they shut down the road to milwaukee!!!!! (i thought it maybe meant we should turn right back around and go shopping with y'all in chicago).
it was such a wonderful pleasure to meet you and your family. enjoy your stay in the midwest and come back any time.
sincerely,
stacy nieciest niece
Hat, I don't know if lightnin bugs can be found downtown but wouldn't that be superfantastic? The Child has never seen one. Must look out for them. And maybe catch one in a jar. I agree that it might not enjoy the plane trip home but wouldn't it be cool to have one?
Neighb!! I sooooo wish you were here. We really are having the time of our lives. I'm going to get you a groovy present for watching out for kitty. I'm sure she thinks we've abandoned her. Thanks for giving her lots of love. You're the bestest ever! xxxooooxxxooo!
Oh, Nieciest Niece...I'm so sorry that you had trouble getting home! Yes, you should have stayed and played! It was awesome to meet you, too, and dear Nayla. You have a superfantastic wedding next weekend, alright? Bless your heart.
Just so you know, I heard the fried oysters there pretty much suck sand. Try the raw.
No fireflies in Seattle :-(
Have a glorious rest of vacation. BTW Shopping is a dream in downtown. I am drooling reading about your dinner.
Cowbell, I'm going for the fried green 'maters, myself.
Rosie, it's a great town and we're talking about buying a condo for a getaway!
I'm glad you folks seem to like us, but I'm even more pleased that you like Chicago.
I love my city. Love it like I loves my Jesus.
This city? This is the spot.
I hope you continue to have a great time.
Iwanski, that condo crack? 'bout this far from serious. You are justified in your love of this town. We so get it.
I have it on good authority that The Fried Oyster place is much better known for it's selection of alternative cuisine..Cajun dishes being among their most delectible..or so I'm told.
Lorrain-- expect a call today (monday). I dont know what your plans are, but what the heck--- dinner sounded wonderful.
Yes, Sling. It's important to learn from the mistakes of others!
Mouse, funny you should mention...I was fixin' on calling you today!
No lightnin bugs in Seattle? That makes me sad.
[sigh.]
Buck up, little scout. We have eagles.
[sucks in breath with rush of envy] What?! Fried green 'maters?! Haven't had those since ... way too damn long. Yummmm.
They were so fab, Cowbell, that I may have to try and get me some more before we leave!
