I stand by my previous statement.
My extensive research shows that Palmer originally wanted to have men all in drag dancing behind him but both the record label and mtv disagreed, citing "that's way too gay."
The rest is history.

Right. Because up until that moment there wasn't a single thing that even hinted at gayness on MTV. I am all astonishment.
No one ever accused mtv of not being hypocrites.
