Lost in Translation

The world of YouTube is not perfect. There are gaps. There are glitches. For example, I was already to fire up a particular video only to discover that it's embedding had been disabled. Those words spell heartbreak for a VJ. I looked for and found the same video only to discover it was the English version of the song, which I didn't want to use.

The song, however, was "embedded" in my head so I still had to play it. And if it had to be in English, then it needed to be this cover, rather than the dubbed original (I hate dubbing. You should know that about me).

So wait -- this is not the original? This is a cover? How could I not have known this? Please explain, because this is my childhood you're messing with.

Falco's version came out in 1982, this was released in '83. I'm sorry to mess with your memories. And I really, really wish I could have played the original. Suckage. (The video is actually pretty lame but it's classic Falco).

Wow. Everything is different now.

See, I had always thought there was only 1 version and that After the Fire was a band that Falco sang in before going solo.

So, is the difference that one is in English and the other in Austrian or whatever? I'm going to have to find and play both versions back to back now and compare.

Who remakes a song 1 year after the original came out? Now I hate After the Fire.

Yes. Falco's version is in Austrian or whatever. (There is a dubbed version of the same video, which as you already know I hate). But don't hate After the Fire. I mean, it is kinda lame to cover something so soon but whatcha gonna do? Their video is probably better, from an 80s video trying to tell a story point of view.

Here's something I'll bet you didn't know: After the Fire was a Christian band. What "Der Kommissar" has to do with anything I do not know.

I thought this was Falco's band, too. And I never knew they were even called 'After The Fire'.

Education. We're all about the education over here. Except when we're not.

You also have to watch out for video cuts done by the youtube patrons. One day I found a video to put up, posted it without watching it first and about every 15 seconds or so it would make a 2 second cut to homemade video of the pornographic kind lol

I now watch everything once before putting it up. :P Loved the song...

While that has never happened to me I somehow feared it to be an option and do the same sort of vetting myself. This is a family rated show. Most of the time. Ok, maybe not this weekend. Whatever. I watch the vids, too.
