I Also Watch the Oscars
Even though it's probably been 5 years since I'd actually seen any of the nominated films prior to Oscar Night. No matter. The point is that the nominations came out today and Helen Mirren was nominated for best actress in "The Queen". Let's just hand her the statuette now and get it over with.

I LOVE HER!
She does deserve the award. But Queen does NOT deserve to be nominated for Best Picture.
I am a bit bitter about the nominations snub of Dreamgirls!
It's no secret that she has always been my favorite. Have you seen any of the interviews she's been giving recently with various entertainment news shows? Oh she's a naughty flirt with the young mens. Quite the cougar.
Haven't seen any of the nominated movies yet, but I do love Helen Mirren, period. I was surprised that Dreamgirls wasn't nominated, given all the great stuff I've heard about it. And really... I don't give a rat's furry behind about any of it. It's just fun to see who and what gets what.
The best reason to vote for Helen Mirren is that she gives great speech. Her acceptance speeches are wonderfully risque, like the time she won the Emmy for "Elizabeth I" and declared that she almost "fell ass over tit" on her way up to the stage.
Oh, and she's brilliant. That, too.
Yeah, I'm thinking Streep is screwed. Crap.
She really is fabulous in The Queen. The fact that she's able to add some warmth to a character commonly perceived to be an ice queen was just fantastic; she lit the character, but just by the most modest and appropriate amount, from within. It was poetry.
I saw her on Sunday in the final episode of Prime Suspect. Holy cow, that woman is talented.
Have not seen that film.
Why am I commenting? Guinness.
I haven't seen it but I got the inconvenient truth tonight...:-P
Iwanski, I haven't seen it either but I know Helen Mirren rocks. And Dame Judi has enough awards.
Grish, Can't wait to hear what you have to say about Al's movie. That I have seen. Very good.
As you may know from a recent post on my site, The Queen was one of my favourite films of last year and yes, I thought Mirren was wonderful in it. But I'm disappointed by how the chap who played Tony Blair seems to keep getting overlooked by awards people.
