Video, with Disclaimer
I've been wanting to play this video for a while because I like Dire Straits and because it has the iconic Sting/MTV bit. But I hesitated because they use the "f" word in this song. Not that "f" word. The other one. The derogatory one that is, I suspect, the moral equivalent of the "n" word to some members of my audience.
So I ran it by one of those members and he basically said, "Funny how that was never made into a big deal back then, was it? But Kramer says the N word and the whole world falls apart".
He also said, "It is music video history and should be preserved, so play it...if anything it's important for each generation to know all about the mistakes of previous generations, if for no other reason than to see how far we've come, or need to go, as the case may be".
And apropos of nothing he also noted that as a kid he thought the line went "...mink coat, yeah buddy that's his ONLY hair." And then we found out that it said "his
OWN hair," and I was disappointed because it was way funnier the first way".
Which it is.
So there. Disclaimer issued and if it's going to be hurtful to you than don't listen. Because we aren't about the hurting over here at the Superfantastic All 80s Blah Blah Blah Video Spectacular weekend.

I'm more offended that MTV used this song to promote themselves even though it was supposed to be a slam against MTV.
"I want my, I want my, I want my MTV". Iconic. Ironic and iconic. That rhymes. I used to want Mark Knopfler to marry me. True story.
I'm going to dismiss that true story and pretend like you never said it.
