I don't know. I also don't know why it is that as I've been playing these songs they go straight to some very visceral place that isn't easily accessed by lots of other kinds of music. With the possible exception of "Amazing Grace" sung a cappella.
Not only the name of the tune, but the obscure name of the artist too. And yeah, every one hits a chord with me. Although, there are a lot of 70's songs that do likewise, especially the James Tayler, Loggins & Messina, Chicago, and Elton John ones. Maybe it's because those were my high school and college years and music seems to be such a huge part of your life at that age. Interesting how much of the great 80's music was by European artists, isn't it?

What is it about 80's songs that makes them so easy to play "Name that Tune" with? I think I'm averaging 3 notes or less.

Yeah, the Europeans pretty much owned the 80s, IMO.
